Time to think spring, summer with the Lisle Park District

It may not feel like spring is in the air, but the Lisle Park District has a variety of special events sprouting up in the next month to help kick off the season.

The Lisle Park District is ready to help you come out of hibernation with the premiere of the summer brochure and a variety of fun annual events.

These happenings will help you plan your summer, assist with post-spring cleaning paperwork, fulfill a need to hit the road with friends or let your band be heard.

April 1 is the official start of summer, with the Summer 2013 Brochure available online and in our facilities.

Programming registration for Lisle Park District residents begins on April 1. By this date, all brochures will have been mailed to residents’ homes. Nonresident registration begins on Monday, April 22. Don’t forget to mark your calendar: summer camp registration begin on Monday, April 8, for children entering grades one through six.

Stop by Lisle’s largest free Shred Event on Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. to noon to have up to five containers of personal documents destroyed securely on-site.

The shredder can accept documents with paper, envelopes and cancelled checks, but cannot accept plastic, binders, cardboard or other non-paper items. Paper must only be brought in disposable containers (plastic or paper grocery bags), and cardboard boxes will not be accepted. All paper is recycled and this event will be held rain or shine.

Looking for an adventure? Sign up for the 28th annual Road Rally multi-village adult scavenger hunt. Teams consist of six adults, a vehicle, map and clues that will require logic, teamwork and luck to win. This event is coordinated with the Bolingbrook, Downers Grove, Naperville and Woodridge park districts. Registration ends Friday, April 12.

Let your band be heard at the annual Illinois Battle of the Bands. Interested bands must submit a demo of at least one song or a link to a website that features a song.

Selected bands will perform Friday, May 3, starting at 6 p.m. at the Lisle Sr. High School Auditorium. The winning Lisle band will advance to a regional battle, and the regional winners will perform at the state finals at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield. Registration for teen bands must be received no later than April 12.
