St. Charles students receive scholarships, compete across disciplines
Marmion Scholarships awarded to local students
Ten eighth-graders have been awarded academic scholarships to attend Marmion Academy next fall. Scholarships were awarded based on performance on the entrance exam held in December 2012, in which 198 eighth grade boys participated. The recipients included these local students, to be members of Marmion’s class of 2017.
Nicholas Grant, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey and Estelle Grant of St. Charles, received the Philip and Marilyn Schnell Scholarship. Nicholas attends Thompson Middle School in St. Charles.
Jonathan Ingoglia-Powers, the son of Ms. Tracey Ingoglia-Powers of South Elgin, received the Arthur J. Weisbrook Memorial Scholarship. Jonathan attends Haines Middle School in St. Charles.
Riley Wise, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vance and Heather Wise of Elburn, received the Gussye Deck Memorial and Joseph Kochevar Memorial Scholarship. Riley attends St. Peter School in Geneva.
Stephen Zimmer, son of Mr. Stephen and Dr. Jacqueline Zimmer Jr. of Geneva, received the Rev. Charles Reichenbacher OSB Scholarship. Stephen attends St. Peter School in Geneva
Ryan Callahan, son of Mr. Michael Callahan of North Aurora, received the Edwin and Laurina Witting Memorial Scholarship. Ryan attends Holy Cross in Batavia.
St. Charles East Scholastic Bowl team competes in Masonic Bowl
ST.CHARLES - The St. Charles East Scholastic Bowl team competed in the 2013 Masonic Bowl at Springfield High School, in Springfield, IL, March 2.
Local DECA members compete at State Conference
ST. CHARLES - Members of St. Charles East DECA, WHAT IS DECA, competed this month at the state State Career Development Conference at Decatur, IL. The top 10 competitors in each category were invited to the conference. DECA is a club that prepares students and emerging leaders in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the world.
East High writers submit to festival
St. CHARLES - St. Charles East High Schools creative writing club has had multiple submissions to the Upstate Eight Writing and Literature Festival. Creative writing club is a group that allows students to share written pieces and receive constructive criticism.
