Duke boys track finish as runner up to LT for indoor conference
BOYS INDOOR TRACK
Lyons Township edged the Dukes by nine points for the title in the West Suburban Silver indoor meet on Friday in Hillside.
York's Alex Bashqawi won the 800-meter run (1:57.94) and cross country teammate Scott Milling won the 3,200 (9:23.91). Alex Mimlitz was runner-up to Milling in the 3,200. Other event winners were Reid Smith (high jump) and Curt Thieme (pole vault).
York did take first place on the sophomore level.
GIRLS INDOOR TRACK
The Dukes took fifth as hosts of the West Suburban Silver meet on Friday. Emma Fisher won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:26.06 and the 1,600 in 5:06.17 to claim York's only victories on the varsity level.
The Knights opened the season with an 11-0 victory over Westmont at Elmhurst College on Friday. Angela Toritto had the bulk of the scoring with five goals and two assists. K.C. Morris scored twice and sophomore Hannah Hartnett scored a goal and assisted two more in her debut at striker. Bailey McCann picked up the shutout in goal in her debut.
The season opener didn't go as planned for the Dukes, which lost at Stagg 25-6, 25-23.
BOYS WATER POLO
The Dukes won 11-3 at Morton on Monday. They head to Schaumburg for an invite this weekend.
GIRLS WATER POLO
An 11-3 win over Hinsdale Central on Friday gave the Dukes their first win in the West Suburban Conference. York fell to Morton 11-7 on Monday.
