Investigators analyze the scene where a man was struck and killed by a train in Downers Grove on Tuesday morning. He has been identified as a 21-year-old Downers Grove man.

DOWNERS GROVE — Officials have identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a Metra train Tuesday as 21-year-old David Allen Conrad of Downers Grove.

Conrad was killed about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday when he was hit by an eastbound Metra train in downtown Downers Grove between Main Street and Forest Avenue.

The DuPage County Coroner's Office has found Conrad suffered multiple head and chest traumas, but a full report won't be ready for up to a few weeks, Coroner Richard Jorgensen said Thursday. The findings will include a toxicology report and will try to determine whether Conrad intended to or accidentally stepped onto the tracks.

Witnesses told police that at the time of the incident, the pedestrian crossing barriers were functioning properly as the Metra train pulled into the Main Street station.

It is the third pedestrian accident this month along the BNSF Metra line.

On Monday, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in Hinsdale. Two weeks ago, a Hickory Hills man was killed along the railway near Cass Avenue in Westmont. The causes of those fatalities are both still under investigation.
