Two weeks after claiming a state championship, the Chicago Mission's U16 Midget Minor hockey team won all three Midwest regional games to earn that title and book a ticket to the National Championship.

The National Championship will take place in Pittsburgh April 3-7.

Four local players will make the trip as members of the Mission: Kevin Fitzgerald (Hinsdale, Hinsdale Central), Michael Floodstrand (Hinsdale, Fenwick) and Guyot LaPoite (Hinsdale, Hinsdale Central) and Daniel Warpecha (Burr Ridge, Hinsdale South).

The Mission, a AAA Tier 1 youth team, topped three of the top teams from the Midwest to win the regional title in Fond du Lac, Wisc. They started with a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues, topped Team Wisconsin 3-2 and locked up the title with a convincing 4-1 win over Omaha Midwest.

The regional championship came on the heels of the Mission's Illinois State championship win March 2.

They topped Team Illinois by a 4-1 score two times to win the best of three championship series. Their first state tournament game, a 4-3, triple overtime win over Chicago Young Americans, was their most arduous, and they followed that with a 5-0 win over the Chicago Fury in the second playoff game.
