Batavia students take stage, receive honors

Chorus members from all the Batavia School District 101 elementary schools joined together for the district's annual Choral Festival at the Batavia Fine Arts Center. The day included a variety of workshops as well as an all-school performance with a guest director.
 
Batavia High School student honored for service
BATAVIA - Sara Sekelsky of Batavia Senior High School has been recognized as a 2011-2012 Discus Award winner for her achievements in the areas of work, community service, and faith.  The Discus Awards is a national program that provides recognition and scholarship opportunities to all-around high school students who excel in three of ten key attributes.  Sekelsky now is eligible for 2011-2012 Discus Awards scholarships.  Also,she created a multimedia profile highlighting her achievements, which may be viewed in the Discus Awards Winners Gallery at www.DiscusAwards.com/winners.

Marmion Scholarships Awarded to local students

Ten eighth-graders have been awarded academic scholarships to attend Marmion Academy next fall. Scholarships were awarded based on performance on the entrance exam held in December 2012, in which 198 eighth grade boys participated. The recipients included these local students, to be members of Marmion’s class of 2017. Ryan Callahan, son of Mr. Michael Callahan of North Aurora, received the Edwin and Laurina Witting Memorial Scholarship. Ryan attends Holy Cross in Batavia. Nicholas Grant, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey and Estelle Grant of St. Charles, received the Philip and Marilyn Schnell Scholarship. Nicholas attends Thompson Middle School in St. Charles. Jonathan Ingoglia-Powers, the son of Ms. Tracey Ingoglia-Powers of South Elgin, received the Arthur J. Weisbrook Memorial Scholarship. Jonathan attends Haines Middle School in St. Charles. Riley Wise, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vance and Heather Wise of Elburn, received the Gussye Deck Memorial and Joseph Kochevar Memorial Scholarship. Riley attends St. Peter School in Geneva. Stephen Zimmer, son of Mr. Stephen and Dr. Jacqueline Zimmer Jr. of Geneva, received the Rev. Charles Reichenbacher OSB Scholarship. Stephen attends St. Peter School in Geneva.
