Teachers react to President's Argonne speech
DARIEN — A combination of rising gas prices and the need to be energy independent has led President Obama to encourage a complete end to oil use in the U.S.
It's a tall order for a country that consumed almost 19 million barrels of oil per day in 2011, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
"We're making progress," Obama said during a speech he delivered at Argonne National Laboratory on March 15. "But the only way to really break this cycle of spiking gas prices ... is to shift our cars entirely — our cars and trucks — off oil."
