Pleasant Lane students host fundraiser for war veterans

Members of the Lombard VFW Lilac Post 5815 and Lombard Historical Society collect a check from the student council at Pleasant Lane School. Throughout February, the students donated their spare change in a Pennies for Patriots fundraising event and collected more than $220. This money will be used to purchase and install headstones at graves of unmarked soldiers in the Lombard Cemetery.

LOMBARD — During the month of February, the student council at Lombard's Pleasant Lane School hosted a Pennies for Patriots fundraising event.

Decorated jugs were placed in every classroom and children were asked to donate their spare change. This activity helped raise money for the Lombard Historical Society and Lombard VFW Lilac Post 5815 to purchase and install headstones for the unmarked soldiers buried at the Lombard Cemetery on Main Street. These veterans served in the War of 1812, the Civil War and World War I.

During the fundraiser, students collected more than $220.
