Community Voice: Lisle Chamber readies for spring events

As you read this today, we are celebrating the first day of spring.

For the Lisle Chamber, we look forward to the activities of the summer which include the Cruise Nights in downtown Lisle, our annual golf outing in July, and our member picnic in August. But that is merely a preview of what is to come.

This week we join 20 other chambers for a multi-chamber luncheon and expo at Bobak’s. Our keynote speaker is Chris Catalano, chairman and CEO of the School of Rock.

This is an event that is limited in reservations but you should know that our members have the opportunity to meet and network with over 500 people from our surrounding communities.

The Rotary Club of Lisle hosted their Luck of the Irish raffle at our Business after Hours last week at Wheatstack. This is an event the Lisle Chamber presents each year in March.

On April 18, our luncheon will feature Michael Higgins from Molex Corporation speaking on Lean Six Sigma at the Hyatt in Lisle. This is a program designed to lower occurrences of defects in products or services in order to improve overall quality. We are pleased to offer this program for those in manufacturing and process as well as organizations offering services.

In the future we plan to offer a workshop on strategic management for small business as well as a program on how to write a business and marketing plan.

Our April Business After Hours will be held at the UPS store on Maple Ave in Lisle. This is a very popular event hosted by UPS store owner Jim George.

You are welcome to attend whether or not you are a member of the Lisle Chamber. You merely need a business card to attend this free networking event.

Soon you will see the publication and distribution of the Lisle Chamber Community and Business Directory. This will be delivered to 8,500 single-family homes in Lisle and the surrounding area. It is a great source for services from our chamber members. Most people retain it all year as a reference guide.

We hope you enjoy it and find it full of useful information. As we close out the month of March we want to wish you and yours the best for the upcoming Easter season and happy spring!

Tom Althoff is president and CEO of the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce.
