Morton boys take second, girls fourth at WSC Silver indoor meets

Omero Montalvo, Bryan Casallo won event titles

BERWYN — Two Morton athletes claimed event titles and six more finished in the top three at the West Suburban Gold boys track indoor conference meet Friday in Berwyn.

The Mustangs took second totaling 113 points behind champion Downers Grove South (148.5) and ahead of Hinsdale South (105).

Omero Montalvo won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:02.8. Junior Mateo Hernandez was right behind in second. Montalvo was also third in the 1,600 with Hernandez coming in at second in that race as well.

Bryan Casallo was Morton's other champion, winning the pole vault by clearing 13 feet, 6 inches. Second-place finishers were Roman Villa (600), Chris Zavala (800) and Jesse Zermeno (shot put). Erick Rivas was fourth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.93 seconds.

The Mustangs took third in the 4 x 800 relay, finishing behind Addison Trail and Leyden. Morton finished in 8:45.48.

Morton girls ADDISON — The Morton girls track team took fourth in the West Suburban Gold indoor meet Friday at Addison Trail.

Lily Mendez won the shot put with a throw of 36 feet, 7.5 inches, and Rocio Hernandez took first in the pole vault by clearing 7-9.

Other top finishers were Desteny Castaneda (second in the 55-meter hurdles) and Sierra Downey (third in the 3,200 and fourth in the 1,600).
