Streamwood police search for man who fatally stabbed gas station clerk

STREAMWOOD — Police in Streamwood are searching for a man who fatally stabbed a 24-year-old gas station clerk early Saturday morning.

About 4:36 a.m. Saturday, Streamwood police and fire department personnel were sent to the Thorntons gas station at 2 N. Barrington Road for a victim bleeding from his chest, according to a news release.

Streamwood resident Anandkumar Jaiswal, 24, had been stabbed several times in his chest and was bleeding profusely. Paramedics took the gas station attendant to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, where he was pronounced dead at 5:28 a.m. Saturday.

An autopsy was conducted by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office Sunday and the cause of death was ruled a homicide, Streamwood Deputy Police Chief Jim Gremo said.

Police described the offender as a white man between 5-foot-9-inches and 6-feet tall. He was dressed in dark clothing, wearing one white shoe and one dark-colored shoe, holding a large knife.

The man stole an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register at the gas station, as well, police said.

Thorntons Inc. is offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

The incident remains under investigation by the Streamwood Police Department. Anyone with information is urged to call the police at 630-837-0953.
