Letter: Voters have a strong leader in Emily Bastedo

Published: Friday, March 15, 2013 2:10 p.m. CST

To the Editor:

I ask you to join me in supporting Emily Bastedo in the upcoming District 205 School Board election. She has a strong background in school finance and is passionate about using her skills to help District 205 schools. I have also known her to be financially responsible, a strong leader and a great communicator — all skills that will help her be an excellent school board member.

I have worked closely with Emily for three years on the board of the Elmhurst Newcomers and Neighbors Club. She is reliable, dedicated, hardworking and smart. As the school board embarks on a year-long "conversation with the community" about the future of our district, I know Emily will have what it takes to lead that discussion and be part of the tough decisions to follow.

In addition to intellect, Emily has fantastic people skills — communicating ideas effectively, resolving conflicts and working well with others — that are so important when working on a board and as an elected official.

Emily has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame and a law degree from DePaul University. Like me, she moved here to raise her children in a beautiful city with excellent schools. She loves this community and is eager to give back. Emily's children will be in Elmhurst schools through the year 2027, so she is invested in our schools.

You can visit her website at EmilyForElmhurst.com to learn more about Emily and to email her directly. I am voting for Emily Bastedo on April 9 and I hope you will, too.
