Letter: Trustees demonstrate need for replacements
To the Editor:
If any of our fellow Lombardians were to watch the video from last week's Board of Trustees meeting online or on TV, they would have a perfect screenshot of the distrust and dysfunction of the current board.
For the better part of 10 minutes, trustees engaged in a heated argument. This was not over budget issues, or policy of any kind. The cause of this accusation charged back and forth? Who did or did not cancel a workshop that was to have taken place.
Trustees spent their time charging others of meeting in private to undermine this workshop. They argued about who was to blame. They interrupted each other. They spoke with clear animosity.
Fixing this issue was as simple as a quick "we can reschedule it," but the discourse has become so toxic that the board can apparently no longer even manage its own time.
Full disclosure, I am running for District 3 trustee. I am doing so because of meetings like this. Our neighbors, friends and children deserve a higher level of discourse. It makes me uneasy to think about the great things this board could have done to move Lombard forward if it wasn't for their political tribalism.
Regardless of what district you reside in, I urge all who have access to the Internet to visit villageoflombard.org and watch the meeting from last week. Watch, and ask yourself: Can Lombard do better? I believe with absolute certainty that we can.
