Letter: Mirabile, Hawbaker right candidates for D-107

To the Editor:

I enthusiastically support the candidacies of Mark Mirabile and Mike Hawbaker for election to the Pleasantdale School District 107 Board of Education.

As a former board member, I have followed the district for many years. Mirabile, a two-term incumbent, has overseen ongoing improvement of already outstanding performance by the district. Hawbaker, a newcomer, represents a committed, fresh addition to the district’s excellent governance. I can attest to Mark and Mike’s integrity and dedication to quality public education for all students.

Consider: Pleasantdale’s taxes are the lowest among the Lyons Township High School feeder districts. The district is financially secure — two-thirds of districts in the state are deficit-spending.

This year, as before, thanks to prudent fiscal management, District 107 will rebate taxes to each homeowner. That means the owner of a $300,000 residence will see a tax bill lower by approximately $175.

Test scores are exceptional in this demographically diverse district. The administrative staff is stable, with the superintendent and two principals on duty for 11 years. Administrative longevity is highly correlated with high student achievement. Class sizes are from 18 to 20 students.

An array of enrichment and extracurricular activities are offered, including art, music and organizations like Book Club. These are driven by student interest and made possible in superior facilities – the best in the township.

Taxpayers looking for excellent value are getting their money's worth at Pleasantdale.
