What to watch:

Montini alum Steve Dowjotas enters his third year as the coach of Broncos. Last year the Broncos were the No. 24 seed in the Wheaton Warrenville South sectional and lost in a regional quarter to St. Francis.

This year Dowjotas is expecting bigger things thanks to a number of returners and a pair of standouts from the football team. Junior Dylan Thompson, a Division 1 prospect at defensive line, and senior Mark Gorogianis, who split time between quarterback and wide receiver for the Broncos in the fall, will join the volleyball team.

Thompson, a 6-foot-6 middle hitter, brings plenty of size, but Dowjotas also raved about his quickness and jumping ability. Gorogianis' football skills may seem like a more natural transition to the volleyball court. He will be an outside hitter.

"We're going to be pretty good once I get my hands on them," Dowjotas said. "Last year was a really down year for us."

Dowjotas projected the Broncos could push for double digit wins, which would be a big improvement over last season.

"Our program has grown a little bit," the coach added. "Volleyball has been hitting the back burner with all the other sports so it's just changing the culture."

Returning sophomores Matt Zogrian and Jimmy Soukup will bring more volleyball experience to the team. The outside hitters are among a group of five hitters.
