Elmhurst's unemployment rate increased in January
ELMHURST — The unemployment rate in Elmhurst increased from 6 percent in December to 7 percent in January, according to data released by the state this week.
Elmhurst's rate also was higher than that of a year ago, when it was 6.3.
The city is still lower than state and national averages, which both also saw increases.
Illinois' unemployment rate jumped from 8.6 percent to 10.1 percent from December to January. Nationally, the rate increased from 7.6 to 8.5 percent.
Elmhurst also fared better than many surrounding communities, including Addison, whose rate increased from 9.4 to 11 percent. Lombard increased from 7.1 to 8.1 percent, and Villa Park increased from 7.4 to 8.6 percent.
