Naz, Lyons send shooters to state 3-Point Showdown
The Friars hung tough with top sectional seed Orr last Wednesday but didn't have enough for the upset in the Class 3A sectional semifinal at Riverside Brookfield. Orr won 55-46 and went on to win the sectional. Dan Dwyer scored 14 points, and Luke Lattner had 10 in his final game for Fenwick, which finished the season 18-9.
Senior Connor Onion advanced out of the Schaumburg sectional to compete in the Class 4A preliminary round on Thursday at Peoria's Carver Arena. Onion is one of 32 competitors in Class 4A fighting for four spots in the final on Friday.
John Bonk made 10 threes on Friday to qualify for the state competition as the top qualifier out of the Riverside Brookfield sectional.
BOYS WATER POLO
The defending state champion Lions opened their season with a 22-2 win over Hinsdale South on Thursday. They return to action Thursday through Saturday at the Fenwick Invite.
The Friars beat Catholic League-rival Loyola 10-7 to open the season March 4.
The Bulldogs opened the season 0-6. RB lost to Morton (9-8) and York (21-9) before going 0-4 at the Stagg Tournament over the weekend. The Bulldogs lost another one-goal match to Morton, 8-7 this time, in the tournament.
GIRLS WATER POLO
LT rebounded from an 8-4 season-opening loss to Mother McAuley on Wednesday with a 15-6 win over West Suburban Silver-foe York on Friday.
Morton beat the Bulldogs 7-6 in overtime last Wednesday. Sydney Veon (three goals) and Emma Veon (two goals) led RB. Goaltender Caitlin Parisi had 16 blocks.
BOYS INDOOR TRACK
RB took second in a six-team invite at Morton on Friday in its first indoor meet of the season. Dan Curtin won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:12.5. Marvin McKenzie won the 400 coming in at 54.53 seconds. Matt Chapp topped teammate Otis Dortch in the 55-meter dash.
