Branch pick-up service cut as Westmont officials navigate $3M revenue loss
WESTMONT — The village of Westmont has made the first in what could be a series of service cuts as administrators look to cut through an estimated $3 million loss in revenues with the repeal of home rule status last year.
The village announced last week that it is suspending its free brush pick-up program indefinitely until the program can be re-evaluated.
Last fall, voters in Westmont repealed the village's home rule authority, forcing the Westmont Village Board to repeal a 2.5 cent per gallon gasoline tax and a one-half percent sales tax. Both tax hikes were enacted under home rule authority.
