RIVERSIDE — Police have announced charges for two men stemming from an incident that occurred at Riverside Brookfield High School March 7.
Armando Marentes, 18 of North Riverside, was charged with residential burglary and disorderly conduct. A 16-year-old student from Riverside was also charged with disorderly conduct and was also the victim of the burglary.
Police reported they responded to RBHS at 12:20 p.m. March 7 in response to a call about a disturbance. School staff had already separated two students who were fighting when police arrived and both students were charged with disorderly conduct.
During their investigation, police said they learned the altercation was over an off-campus incident that had taken place earlier in the week. Further investigation revealed that a residential burglary had taken place in the 100 block of Lawton Road where police allege Marentes entered a home through the window and stole a quarter pound of cannabis and some electronic equipment.
When the victim learned of the burglary, he confronted Marentes at the school.
Marentes was charged with one count of felony residential burglary based on evidence collected on the scene by police.
Police said they are continuing their investigation, as more suspects may have been involved in the burglary.
