Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital hosts free events and seminars

BOLINGBROOK — Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital is offering residents several free informational meetings and seminars in March, covering topics such as obesity, surgical weight lost and sleep deprivation.

On Thursday, the hospital will host an informational session in which residents can learn about addressing sleep issues. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, board certified sleep specialist and pulmonologist Dr. Arnon Rubin will present “Sleepless in Bolingbrook,” discussing common sleep disorders, treatment options and ways to diagnose symptoms.

March is Sleep Awareness Month and the hospital is offering this free discussion to help residents better understand the available options if they suffer from a sleep disorder, Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital marketing manager Ronda Klocko said.

Additionally, at 6 p.m. Thursday, hospital experts will present "Surgical Options for Weight Loss," a program covering gastric banding and surgical weight loss options. The seminar will also provide an overall description of the lifestyle changes necessary following surgery, and past patients will be on hand to share their experiences.

Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital will continue its series of free events at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21 with a documentary screening and panel discussion on obesity.

The Bolingbrook hospital will screen a recent installment from the HBO documentary series "The Weight of the Nation,” in which filmmakers and leading medical researchers shed light on solutions to restore America's individual and collective health.

Following the movie screening, a panel of medical experts will discuss the issues of obesity and how individuals can all fight this epidemic in homes, schools and in the community.

Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital is running the event in collaboration with the Forward Initiative, a program being run by the DuPage County Health Department focusing on obesity, said Klocko.

“Obesity is a national epidemic,” Klocko said. “We wanted to create a program to help make a difference for people.”
