Former Wheaton North Booster Club president charged with stealing more than $10k from club

WHEATON — The DuPage County State's Attorney's Office has charged a former Wheaton North Booster Club president with stealing more than $10,000 from the club, according to a news release.

Dorothy "Dee" Horky, 57, of Carol Stream is accused of taking cash advances against the Wheaton North Booster Club credit card between July and November 2012 after her term as president had expired, according to the release.

It is alleged that Horky withdrew money totaling $9,838.32 from a Booster Club bank account and transferred those funds to pay for the cash advances, officials said.

Horky served as president from May 2006 through May 2011 and was issued the American Express credit card during her term. Horky allegedly told officials she had destroyed the card when her term ended, according to the release.

In November 2012, Booster Club officials noticed inconsistencies in the club's financial books and notified the Wheaton Police Department, officials said.

An investigation led by the police department and assisted by the State's Attorney's Office revealed Horky allegedly took $10,985.53 in cash advances, according to the release.

On March 7, a $5,000 arrest warrant was issued for Horky. She turned herself in to authorities Monday afternoon and was released after posting bail, the release reads.

Horky has been charged with one count of theft exceeding $10,000. She could face probation or from three to seven years in prison, officials said.

She is scheduled to appear April 22 in front of DuPage County Circuit Judge Daniel Guerin.
