Lady Hornets put sting into season-ending tournaments
Lady Hornets mirror Hinsdale South's basketball success.
DARIEN — Hinsdale South's girls basketball team won the West Suburban Gold Conference title this season, and the Hornets' grade school feeder teams enjoyed similar success.
The Lady Hornets Basketball Club's sixth- and seventh-grade teams both capped their seasons by winning championships at the Road to Success basketball tournament Feb. 23-24 at Neuqua Valley High School.
The sixth-grade team went 4-0, winning games over opponents from Yorkville, Naperville, Lisle and West Aurora. Team members were Crysta Davis, Jaylan Grant, Jailan Hatchett, Emily Koziol, Kate Kulpinski, Kristina Landolina, Brigid LoConte, Francesca Markos, Andrea Nkansah, Brooke Steinhaus and Jena Suda. The team was coached by Mark Koziol along with assistant coaches Cliff Davis and Jim Ladd.
The seventh-grade Lady Hornets also went 4-0, winning games against teams from Naperville, Aurora, West Aurora and Oswego. Hornets players included Naomi Cimmino, Krystal Hardrick, Amber Hare, Maddie Jensen, Madison Kern, Kaitlyn King, LaTavia Latham, Kaitlyn Little, Kaitlyn Maas, Jennifer Massello and Jamisha Shell. The team was coached by Brian Kern along with assistant coaches Javais Harris and Rob Jensen.
