Public works crews hit streets for winter storm, village issues reminders about snow removal
LOMBARD — Snow removal efforts in Lombard began Monday night in Lombard, before snow had even begun to fall, and are expected to continue through Wednesday, said Carl Goldsmith, director of the Public Works Department.
Throughout Monday evening, crews were on the streets spreading an anti-icing agent across all of the village's primary and secondary routes, Goldsmith said. Last year, Lombard's Public Works Department began using the agent, which is a saline solution, to treat the streets before measurable snow events.
The village has implemented two 12-hour shifts to plow snow and salt the roads. The crews are on a 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. shift, and a 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. shift, and should continue working on clean-up through Wednesday.
