GLEN ELLYN — The village of Glen Ellyn has named an assistant village manager to succeed longtime village employee Danamarie Izzo, who retired last week.

Al Stonitsch, human resources director of the village of Glenview, will begin his new role in Glen Ellyn on March 11, according to a village news release.

"The village welcomes Mr. Stonitsch to his new position and looks forward to him being an important part of the management team," the news release reads.

More than 90 candidates from across the United States applied for the position as part of the village's search for a new assistant village manager, according to the release.

In his new role as assistant village manager, Stonitsch will manage human resources and information technology and oversee communications, according to the village. He will serve as acting village manager in Village Manager Mark Franz's absence as well. Izzo's position was assistant to the village manager.

Stonitsch has 11 years of experience in local government and human resources management from the village of Glenview. He has a bachelor's degree from Marquette University and a master's degree in public service management from DePaul University.

“It’s an absolute privilege to work for Glen Ellyn, and I’m very excited about the opportunity to work with the management team and overall organization to achieve the Village Board’s goals for the community," Stonitsch said in the news release.
