Winter storm warning continues through Tuesday evening
A winter storm is expected to bring heavy snowfall and gusting winds beginning Tuesday morning in DuPage, Cook and other nearby counties, according to the National Weather Service.
It is expecting snow accumulation of between 7 to 10 inches.
Light snow is expected to spread across northeastern Illinois Monday night and become more intense toward daybreak Tuesday and persist through Tuesday evening, according to the weather service.
Accumulation rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible at times, making snow removal difficult and travel extremely dangerous.
The combination of heavy snow and winds gusting up to 25 to 30 mph later Tuesday into Tuesday night also may cause blowing and drifting snow in open areas. This will affect both Tuesday morning and evening rush hours, according to the winter storm warning.
