Downers Grove's Good Sam retains spot among nation's top 100
DOWNERS GROVE — Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital earned two top accolades this week, including a spot among the nation's best hospitals.
For the fourth time, Good Sam was included in the Top 100 Hospitals list published by Truven Health Analytics.
The Downers Grove hospital also earned the Everest Award — the first time it has received the accolade. The award recognizes hospitals within the Top 100 for leadership in the field.
These are hospitals "that are setting benchmarks by integrating the highest achievement with the fastest long-term improvement," according to a release from the hospital. "These hospitals also have set national benchmarks for the fastest five-year rate of improvement in the country."
A total of seven Illinois hospitals — including three others in the Downers Grove-based Advocate Health Care system — were included in the list.
Just 17 across the country receive the Everest award. With three Advocate hospitals receiving that additional recognition — Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, in addition to Good Sam — Illinois was the only state with three Everest winners.
“We are honored to receive this award on behalf of the community we serve,” Dave Fox, president of Good Samaritan Hospital, said in a hospital press release. “I am grateful for the hard work and dedication of associates, leaders and physicians to provide outstanding care.”
The list was published in this week's edition of Modern Healthcare magazine. Hospitals do not apply for the award, and winners do not need to pay to market the honor.
In past years, the list was published under the mantle of Thomson Reuters Healthcare until the company sold off the business in 2012.
“The winners of the 100 Top Hospitals award have driven the national benchmarks higher every year for 20 years,” Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president at Truven Health Analytics, said according to the hospital's press release.
“This year’s winners have brought even higher value to their local communities — better quality, higher efficiency and high patient perceptions of care, while confronting the challenges of massive industry-wide transformation to implement health care reform.”
