Police: RB student steals scale from chem class to measure pot
RIVERSIDE — A 17-year-old North Riverside boy was arrested after he allegedly stole a digital scale from a chemistry lab at school to measure marijuana.
The boy was charged on Friday with theft, manufacture and delivery of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after police responded to a theft investigation at Riverside Brookfield High School.
The juvenile told police he stole the scale to measure the marijuana he had purchased, Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel said. Police contacted the boy's father, who allowed for a search of his home that resulted in the discovery of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, scales and packaging materials.
The boy was petitioned to juvenile court on the charges and turned over to his father. The digital scale from the school, valued at $300, was returned.
Police said the teenager had all the materials for processing, cutting and packaging marijuana.
