Zito returns to finals with state's fifth best sectional time
Senior helps Addison Trail-Willowbrook co-op send relay to state
WESTERN SPRINGS — Nick Zito, a Willowbrook senior, highlighted the Addison Trail-Willowbrook boys swimming co-op's sectional Saturday at Lyons Township.
Zito won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:55.45, the seventh best qualifying time in the state. Zito also qualified in the 100 breaststroke after touching in 58.51 seconds. His time in the 100 breaststroke was second in the sectional, but also fifth best in the state.
Last year, Zito qualified for the consolation finals in the 100 breaststroke and won that race to take seventh place. He just missed the cut of the 200 IM, placing 15th in the preliminaries.
Zito anchored the 400 freestyle relay team that also qualified. Max Railing, Jason Sechan and R.L. Aldridge swam the first three legs of the relay, which was fourth in the sectional with a time of 3:14.20.
The co-op team was seventh out of 13 teams at the sectional with 89 points.
The state meet will take place at New Trier's Winnetka campus. The host Trevians won the state title last year.
