Six state qualifiers expected back for Glenbard East wrestling
Seven Rams competed at the state tournament last weekend
CHAMPAIGN — Six of the seven Glenbard East state qualifiers were newcomers to state and six of the seven were underclassmen so it's not a major surprise that none of them medaled.
However, with those numbers in mind, Glenbard East appears to be a major threat for next season.
The lone senior Ram to compete at state, Shane Vincent, lost his only match at 220 pounds and didn't get another chance in the wrestlebacks.
Carlos Fuentez (106 pounds), Jake Drew (126) and Josh Martin (138) each won their opening matches before falling in the quarterfinals. Only Martin won another match to finish 2-2 at state after getting knocked out in the wrestleback quarterfinals.
Drew, a sophomore, was the lone returning state qualifier for the Rams.
Junior Dayton Olson went 1-2 at 120 pounds. Anfarnee Rodgers (113) and D'Andre Johnson (285) left Champaign without wins.
