La Grange pastor jailed after child sexual assault charge
LA GRANGE — A 59-year-old pastor of a La Grange church has been held in lieu of $750,000 bond after being charged last week with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.
The Rev. Donald R. Jung, 59, of the 100 block of East Avenue in La Grange, was arrested and charged with "inappropriate and illegal sexual contact" with a juvenile, La Grange police said. Jung is listed as the head pastor with the Second Baptist Church of La Grange, 26 Washington Ave., on its website.
Jung is charged with sexually assaulting a 9-year-old during a trip to Milwaukee on an unknown date, according to media reports. The girl, who had been asleep while Jung allegedly assaulted her, tried to reach her mother by phone after the incident but was unsuccessful and Jung allegedly repeated his actions the following night.
Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Amari Dawson said Jung didn't admit to sexual assault but allegedly told police he had raped the girl's mother 22 years ago, when she was 10 years old, according to media reports.
The date of Jung's arrest was not indicated. La Grange investigators worked with criminal justice and medical authorities to examine the claims, police said.
Jung was held at the Cook County Jail on Saturday after appearing in bond court. He was scheduled to appear in court again Tuesday.
Repeated attempts to reach representatives of the Second Baptist Church of La Grange for comment by phone and in person were unsuccessful.
