Brooks Middle School 'Pays It Forward' with football game fundraiser
BOLINGBROOK — As part of Valley View School District's Pay It Forward 365 program, Brooks Middle School teachers and students took to the gridiron Feb. 8.
Culminating a week of donating canned goods and raising funds through raffle tickets, 21 students were randomly chosen to participate in the staff versus students football game in the Brooks Middle School gymnasium. Originally, the event was scheduled outdoors but was forced inside due to inclement weather.
Parents, fellow students and Valley View School District administrators also attended event.
The students won, but it was more than just a football game to the Brooks community. The canned goods and money raised were dispersed among three needy Brooks Middle School families.
Designed as a way to help students and staff focus on positive interactions throughout their daily lives, “Pay It Forward 365” is modeled after a national campaign based on the Kevin Spacey movie “Pay it Forward,” about a teacher who inspires a student to complete acts of kindness to three people. Those three people pay back that act of kindness with three more acts of kindness each.
Schools throughout Valley View School District participated in the program, hosting a wide range of activities and lessons.
