Outright title still in RB's sight despite first MSC loss since 2010
Bulldogs fell to Ridgewood in overtime on Friday
RIVERSIDE — It's been a while since Riverside Brookfield lost a Metro Suburban Conference boys basketball game.
The Bulldogs dropped a home game to Ridgewood on Friday, 71-65 in overtime, to snap a 37-game MSC winning streak and fall to 10-1 in league play. The last time RB lost a conference game was Jan. 29, 2010, when the Bulldogs lost 70-65 at Timothy Christian.
"They shot the ball real well," said RB coach Tom McCloskey. "Their driving and kick was hurting us. Their shooting was excellent. It was a game we fell behind and I give our kids credit for fighting back to force overtime."
Miki Ljuboja continued his strong season with 24 points and 15 rebounds. Damonta Henry scored 14 points and Jack VandeMerkt added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Friday's loss may have only delayed the inevitable outright title for RB, which survived in the final second with a 61-60 win at Ridgewood in the first meeting. The Bulldogs have already locked up at least a share of the league title and lead the Rebels by one game with only a game against Elmwood Park remaining.
RB beat Elmwood Park 73-53 on the road on Jan. 18.
"They gave us a tough game the first time on the road," McCloskey said. "There's a lot at stake. We want to get the outright conference title."
