Red Stars announce home schedule, open tryouts

The Chicago Red Stars have unveiled their schedule for the inaugural 2013 National Women’s Soccer League season.

LISLE — The Chicago Red Stars have unveiled their schedule for the inaugural 2013 National Women’s Soccer League season.

They’ll kick off the year at home at at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 14, against Seattle Reign FC, a team that features US women's national team star Hope Solo. The schedule features 11 home and 11 away games that will conclude on August 18.

Tickets for all of the Red Stars home dates this season will be available as part of full season ticket packages, which are on sale now, or as individual or group game ticket options, which will be on sale in the next two weeks.

The Red Stars will play the 2013 home season at Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle. This season at Benedictine will feature VIP field-side and goal-line seating, as well as a beer-garden, and open pregame tailgating.  With the additional seating options, the total seating capacity will be close to 3,600 spectators.

Each of the league’s eight clubs will play a total of 22 games during a 19-week span. The top four teams from regular season play will qualify for the NWSL playoffs and compete in the playoffs the last two weekends in August.

In addition to the season opener against the Reign, the Red Stars will be at Benedictine on the following dates:

Saturday, April 27, 7 p.m. against Portland Thorns FC Sunday, May 12, 5 p.m. against Portland Thorns FC Sunday, June 9, 3 p.m. against the Boston Breakers Thursday, June 13, 6:30 p.m. against FC Kansas City Wednesday, June 19, 6:30 p.m. against the Western New York Flash Thursday, July 4, 1 p.m. against the Western New York Flash Sunday, July 14, 3 p.m. against FC Kansas City Saturday, July 20, 6 p.m. against the Washington Spirit Saturday, August 3, 6 p.m. against the Seattle Reign Saturday, August 10, 6 p.m. against Sky Blue FC

Season tickets are on sale now at chicagoredstars.com and feature three options: General seating packages for $165, Club seating packages for $200, and VIP Fieldside seating packages for $495. Single game and group tickets will be on sale prior to March 1.

The Red Stars also announced they will host open tryouts for the upcoming season March 5 at Westmont Yard Sports Complex in Westmont. College seniors and post-collegiate players are welcome to try out. The tryout will take place in two sessions from 10 a.m. to noon and 1:30-3 p.m. Registrants must attend both sessions.

All interested players must fill out a registration form and a waiver prior to the tryout.  Registration cost is $60. Participants must provide their own transportation and accommodations for the event.
