Lemont Park District Dolphins finish second at South Suburban Swim Conference
LEMONT — The Lemont Park District Dolphins Swim Team placed second last week in the South Suburban Swim Conference held at The CORE.
On Saturday, the Dolphins hosted the 2012-13 Conference Championship. Swimmers who participated in the conference ranged between the ages of six to 18. Six teams including more than 300 swimmers and hundreds of guests and spectators were present.
"We went into this meet as an underdog, having moved up from the lower division the previous season," Head Coach Erik Enslen said in a press release. "Our initial goal was to be somewhere in the middle of the pack so that we could stay in this division."
The final scores were: Lockport at 1,261; Lemont Dolphins at 1,180; Homewood Flossmoor at 1,168; Great Illinois Swimmers at 1,123; Palos Area at 983 and Bradley Bourbonnais at 926.
Assistant Coach Matt Kubowitsch said the team is very excited with the second place finish.
"This team has come a long way in just two and a half years," Kubowitsch said. "I am very proud of everything our swimmers have accomplished through all of their hard work."
The next championship for the Lemont Dolphins is the Illinois Swimming Regional Championships in Homewood on February 22 through 24. The Dolphins currently have 12 swimmers qualified for the Regioinal Championships in 38 events.
