Prep Roundup - Wheaton Academy wins fourth straight conference title
Behind 29 points from Collin Roy, the Warriors defeated Kaneland 66-46 on Saturday. Gordon Behr added 12 points in the victory.
On Feb. 5, Wheaton Academy clinched its fourth Suburban Christian Conference title in a row with a 55-42 win over Walther Lutheran. Behr had 16 points, Gabe Partain scored 11 and Brandon Ruggles totaled 10.
The Spartans beat Round Lake 69-30 on Saturday to improve to 18-5 on the winter. Tim Zettinger had 14 points to lead the way.
On Feb. 7, St. Francis lost 50-43 to Aurora Central Catholic
The Falcons dropped a 68-44 decision to West Aurora Friday in DuPage Valley Conference action. Andrew Zelis had 14 points and Matt Biegalski added 12 in the loss.
The Spartans wrapped up the regular season with a 13-13 mark after falling 36-33 to Glenbard West Friday. Aly Germanos totaled 13 points in the loss.
The Warriors kicked off the Class 3A playoffs with a 53-20 win over the Chicago VOISE Academy Monday in a regional quarterfinal matchup. Marissa Gagliano led all scorers with 13 points and Garrison added 12.
The Warriors were coming off a 60-43 loss to Marian Central Catholic on senior night Feb. 8.
Three days earlier, Wheaton Academy defeated Guerin 43-25. Jamie Netzley had 11 points and six steals, Abby Olson scored eight and Gagliano added seven.
The Wildcats closed out the regular season with a 67-37 loss to Naperville Central Thursday in the team's final game in the DuPage Valley Conference. West Chicago heads to the Upstate Eight conference next year. Laura Panicali had 22 points in the defeat.
Two days earlier, West Chicago fell 67-55 to Wheaton North.
The Wheaton co-op had a few individuals compete at the Glenbard West sectional Feb. 5 but did not have anybody qualify for this weekend's state meet.
Sarah Bradley placed 13th in the all-around competition with a 34.925. Brianna Mulhearn was 25th with a 32.275.
Bradley was 11th on the vault (9.225) and the balance beam (8.750). Mulhearn was 16th on the beam (8.550) and Gracie Erickson came in 25th on that event (8.100).
Katie McDonald posted an 8.775 on floor to finish 17th while Julie Galo was 22nd on the floor (8.425) and 26th on the uneven bars ( ). Brooke Stewart was also 27th on the floor (8.325).
