Bulldogs laugh all the way to league title
RB girls head into postseason with surprise MSC championship
After losing 13 seniors from the previous season, the Riverside Brookfield girls basketball team wasn't sure what to expect.
The Bulldogs' 23-4 regular season and outright Metro Suburban Conference title surpassed all expectations RB had in the preseason.
"We kind of joke with each other that if you told us we'd be 23-4 and conference champs at the beginning of the season we probably would have laughed at you," said RB coach Dallas Till.
RB locked up the conference title with a 56-23 win over Elmwood Park on Thursday. Hannah Claywell scored 12 points and Kaija Bole and Angela Comicho added 10 each.
"I think they were really excited," Till said. "We had a great day from start to finish. It was senior night. Things couldn't have ended any better than they did."
All five seniors, Claywell, Bole, Emma Schander, Brittney JnoBaptiste and Stephanie Taccola, started the senior night game.
Till said the unselfish attitude of the team led to a great chemistry and success on the court. A 22-point comeback against Fenton on Jan. 12 and a win over Glenbard South on Jan. 29 to avenge the Bulldogs' only conference loss showed the spirit of the team.
"We had some surprises and we just meshed really well," Till said. "It's been one of my more enjoyable years of coaching."
