Bolingbrook house fire claims family dog Tuesday night
BOLINGBROOK — On Tuesday night, Bolingbrook Fire Department received a call from a resident in the 300 block of Sword Way reporting a fire at a neighboring house, according to the Bolingbrook Fire Department.
Fire crews responded to the incident about 9:33 p.m., finding heavy smoke and fire pluming from a two-story single family home at 357 Sword Way. Due to an "aggressive interior attack" the fire was quickly brought under control by the first fire companies, according to Bolingbrook Fire Marshall Jeff LaJoie.
The occupants were not home at the time of the fire and there were not any injuries. However, the homeowners' dog died in the fire due to smoke inhalation, LaJoie said.
Damage to the structure and contents was estimated at around $100,000, according to the fire department.
Red Cross assisted the family with finding shelter and other necessities.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
