LT heads to Wednesday's sectional after posting state's best regional score
Lions won LT Regional with a 149.775 team score
The Lyons Township girls gymnastics team keeps setting the bar high.
LT won its own regional last Wednesday with a staggering score of 149.775. It was a season-best score and was the best score any team put up in a regional last week.
Sophomore Kelsy Kurfirst won the all-around at the regional with a 38.1. That was the second best all-around score posted in all of the regionals. Only Carmel's Lauren Feely scored higher at 38.325. Lyons junior Michelle Cozza wasn't far behind with a 37.7.
Kurfirst won vault and uneven bars while junior Katie Carling won beam and floor. Jessica Lyons, Maren Craig and Olivia McGann also automatically qualified for sectionals. Alyssa Lancaster and Kelly Ryser earned at-large spots.
The sectional meet will take place at Hinsdale Central on Wednesday. Of the teams facing LT at the sectional, the Oswego co-op scored highest at regionals with a 139.925.
Lincoln-Way co-op, Hinsdale Central, Naperville North and Neuqua Valley will also be competing at Central. The meet is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
