Scheme to steal, resell gasoline ends in Riverside arrest
RIVERSIDE — A Hillside man was arrested in Riverside and charged with stealing large amounts of gasoline through what police called a "sophisticated manner."
Darius Williams, 35, of the 400 block of Irving Avenue, was charged with retail theft of motor fuel and criminal damage to property on Friday in connection to a Jan. 20 incident.
About 8 p.m. that day, Williams and another person allegedly drove up to the pumps at the 7-Eleven at 26th Street and Harlem Avenue in two separate cars, removed the housing from the pump and disabled the electronic device that measures the amount of gallons pumped and dollar amount charged, police said.
