Long-time Berwyn resident remembered for political passion
BERWYN — Family members remember Karel Capek as a man who was passionate about his convictions and sense of social justice. It’s not hard to understand for a man who spent 11 years as a political prisoner in the former Czechoslovakia.
Capek, 82, a long-time resident of Cicero and Berwyn, died Jan. 14 at Alden Town Manor in Cicero.
Capek, who worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for the Danly Machine Corp. in Cicero, was something of an enigma, his son, Karel Jr., said, in that here was a man who labored in a plant by day and read philosophy by night.
