Expanding chicken ordinance doesn't fly with council
A set of new rules that would have allowed thousands of chickens coops in the village did not find favor with the Village Council on Tuesday night.
DOWNERS GROVE — Downers Grove won't be hatching new rules on backyard chickens, at least not in the immediate future.
After a lengthy discussion Tuesday night, the Village Council rejected a plan to expand the chicken ordinance that would have allowed almost every single-family lot in the village to house fowl in its backyard.
The proposed solution was too overreaching to address the issue at hand, members said — though they did not close the book on coops entirely.
