Downers Grove man takes on new role with Brookfield Zoo
BROOKFIELD — Joseph Couceiro has more than 30 years’ experience working at big companies focused on family-friendly attractions, including Walt Disney World, Sea World and Busch Gardens. He now has one more employer to add to the list.
Last fall, Couceiro was named vice president of marketing with the Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo. In the role, he provides strategic direction for the marketing group, such as developing multiyear marketing plans related to generating attendance, revenues and awareness and establishing brand positioning.
How did you first become interested in working for zoological and conservation-oriented organizations?
I really didn’t intend on getting into zoological organizations. I mean, I’ve always had a passion for it, but once I started working with Sea World in Orlando I really developed a passion not just for the live element of working with animals, but also with how that was intertwined with the way we educated the customer and how that education led to greater appreciation for conservation.
