Wheaton at-large candidate found ineligible to run on ballot, plans write-in campaign

WHEATON — After Wheaton City Council at-large candidate John Prendiville objected to fellow candidate Frank Garcia’s voter registration status, the city’s electoral board sustained the objection during a meeting Jan. 14.

According to the Wheaton City Code, candidates must be registered voters of Wheaton when they file their petition for candidacy, and they also must live within the corporate limits of the city for at least one year preceding the election.

The board found Garcia was not registered to vote in Wheaton when he filed his petition Dec. 7, City Clerk Sharon Barrett-Hagen said.
