Montini girls improve to 21-1 with romp over Guerin
Broncos won 53-17 in Suburban Christian crossover Saturday
Montini is 21-1, undefeated in conference and has a list of wins over top teams already this season. However, coach Jason Nichols is hard to satisfy.
The Broncos beat Guerin 53-17 on Saturday in Lombard in a Suburban Christian Conference crossover, but Nichols still was able to point out the areas his talented team can improve on.
“We couldn’t score in the half court offense," he said. "The only way we scored was in transition or presses.”
Montini's press was effective enough to help the Broncos race out to a 28-6 halftime lead. Nine different Broncos scored led by Kelly Karlis' 15 points.
The Broncos have won eight in a row, including the four wins it took to win the holiday tournament against elite competition. Nichols is hoping to see the team return to the form they showed during that tournament.
"We played our best basketball at Christmas because we played three consecutive days hard," Nichols said. "Now we need to find the momentum between games and practices to practice hard like they’re games. Once we do that I think it will relate to overall success. We’re 21-1, but I’m just not happy with where we’re at. We can be better than we are.”
Montini's next game is Jan. 15 at Wheaton Academy.
