Spots still open in District 99 school board race
With about a day left to file for office, the race for one of Downers Grove's school boards still has fewer candidates than available seats.
Two incumbents have yet to file for the four seats up for election on the Downers Grove High School District 99 Board of Education.
So far, only board President Bill White and Vice President Deb Boyle — who both filed on Monday, the first day of the filing period — are officially running for re-election. As of Friday afternoon, Terry Pavesich and Julia Beckman had not submitted the paperwork.
Beckman was first elected to the board in 1993; Pavesich has served since 2005.
At Downers Grove School District 58, no additional candidates have filed since Monday either, when four submitted their paperwork. Incumbents John D. Cooper Jr., Sallie Ann Lupescu and Roberta Diehl, as well as newcomer James Paul, are running for four spots on the school board.
District 58 Board President Stephen Funk has not filed his paperwork for re-election as of Friday afternoon. Funk was elected in 2009 and is serving his first term as president.
Candidates can file until the close of business today, and there is another opportunity between 1 and 5 p.m. Wednesday. The races will be decided in an April 9 election.
Messages left for the outstanding candidates were not immediately returned Friday afternoon.
