Five incumbents, one newcomer file for Downers Grove school districts
Six candidates have filed for seats on Downers Grove's main school boards, but more are expected to join the races before the end of the filing period next week.
Four seats are up for election in April on both the Community High School District 99 and the Downers Grove School District 58 school boards.
On Monday, the first day of the filing period, four candidates, including three incumbents, submitted their paperwork for the District 58 school board. Incumbents John D. Cooper Jr., Sallie Ann Lupescu and Roberta Diehl, as well as newcomer James Paul, filed intentions to run.
President Stephen Funk has not filed his paperwork for re-election as of Monday afternoon.
In District 99, only two incumbents have stepped into the race so far. President Bill White and Vice President Deb Boyle filed early on the first day. Board members Terry Pavesich and Julia Beckman are also up for re-election next year, but they did not file on Monday.
Candidates can continue to file through Friday, and they will have another window on Dec. 26.
