BOLINGBROOK — Charges were filed Friday against a former Maywood police officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a Villa Park hotel in March.
Deon Sams, 38, 212 N. Orchard Drive, Bolingbrook, was charged with two counts of criminal assault and one count of official misconduct. He appeared in bond court Friday before DuPage County Judge Thomas
Else where his bond was set at $200,000 with 10 percent to apply.
According to authorities, during the early morning hours of March 24, 2012, Sams was on patrol for the Maywood Police Department when he saw a woman walking down the street in Maywood.
He asked her if she needed help and brought her to the police station. He allegedly left his police vehicle at the station and drove away with the woman in a personal vehicle to a hotel in Villa Park.
Sams brought the woman into the room that he rented at the hotel where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
“My officer takes any allegations of a sexual assault very seriously,” said DuPage County State’s Attorney, Robert Berlin. “What makes this case particularly disturbing is the alleged offender is a police officer. I would like to stress that the allegations against Mr. Sams are not a reflection of the fine men and women of the Maywood Police Department. I would like to thank the Maywood Police Department for their complete cooperation in this matter as well as the Assistant State’s Attorney Romas Mockaitis for his efforts.”
