Willowbrook girls basketball is 3-0 in conference play
It was a runaway in Lombard Friday night. The Rams led by as many as 32 in a 59-41 win over Naperville Central in the DuPage Valley Conference opener for both teams. Tahron Harvey had a game-high 18 points and Mike Kjeldsen added 16.
James Pupillo scored 16 points, but the Blazers fell at Downers Grove South 63-48 in the West Suburban Gold opener.
Despite holding a 14-point lead after three quarters Willowbrook could not finish off Hinsdale South and lost 71-70 to the Hornets Friday night. Edvinas Mickevicius scored 17 points to lead the Warriors in the loss. Adam Hill had 15 and Tiger Greene added 12. The Warriors’ heartbreaking week continued with a 54-53 loss at Plainfield South on Tuesday. South made two free throws in the final second for the win.
Logan Goss led the Broncos with 16 points in a 52-39 win over St. Edward last Wednesday and had a team-high 19 in a 63-39 win over Joliet Catholic the next night. Montini finished the Aurora Christian Tournament 3-1 after a 57-45 win over IMSA and a 61-38 lost to the hosts. The Broncos knocked off Chicago Christian 66-61 on Tuesday behind 19 points from Goss and double-doubles from Simmie Cobbs (18 points, 13 rebounds) and Matt Brachmann (13 points, 11 rebounds).
The Broncos made it seven wins in seven games to start the year with a 65-37 win over Aurora Central Catholic on Saturday.
The Warriors improved to 3-0 in the West Suburban Gold with a pair of wins. On Saturday Willowbrook beat Proviso East 79-51 and on Tuesday they beat Leyden 67-27.
28 points from Claudia Denigris and 15 from Kelsey Horvath weren’t enough to top Morton on Saturday. The Blazers fell 76-68 in Berwyn. On Tuesday Hinsdale South beat the Blazers 60-31.
The Rams lost to Naperville Central 53-36 last Thursday. Tajanae Key had eight points and Kelly Eberle scored seven. Two nights later Wheaton North beat East 54-33. Allison Hansen scored 12.
The Broncos swept a quad at Mt. Carmel on Saturday. Montini beat Harlem 38-24, Marist 31-27 and the host Caravan 49-18.
With pins from Jake Luech and Matt Chlebek the Rams beat Naperville Central 32-26 in a DuPage Valley Conference dual on Friday.
The Blazers topped Downers Grove South 37-32 to kick off the dual season in the West Suburban Gold on Friday.
The Warriors went 3-0 in a quad at York on Saturday. Willowbrook beat Hoffman Estates 57-19, York 37-31 and Wheeling 46-27.
The Rams fell to Naperville Central 129.8-121.7 on Thursday. Karen Sebby earned first place on the bars with an 8.25. East placed ninth out of 12 teams at the Downers Grove North Invite on Saturday. The Rams picked up another dual win on Monday, 124.55-122.8 at Andrew.
The Blazers won their first dual of the season, 117.25-88.4 at Glenbard South on Saturday. Casey Boksha was the top all-arounder with a score of 32.05.
