Making its fourth appearance in a state final, Glenbard North came into Saturday's Class 8A matchup with Mt. Carmel searching for its first title.
The wait will last a little longer.
Stymied by a tough Caravan defense, the Panthers could never get their offense on track in a 28-14 loss.
Glenbard North ends the season with a mark of 12-2.
The Panthers actually scored first, courtesy of a 77-yard interception return by Justin Jackson. But Mt. Carmel answered with 28 consecutive points, highlighted by a 78-yard run by Draco Smith and a touchdown pass and run by quarterback Don Butkus.
The Panthers rounded out the scoring with a six-yard TD pass from Brian Murphy to Ryan Storto late in the fourth quarter.
A workhorse throughout the season for Glenbard North, Justin Jackson was finally slowed down. The junior running back was held to 63 yards rushing on 28 attempts.
Murphy completed 9-of-25 passes for 168 yards while rushing for 46 yards. Storto hauled in four passes for 80 yards.
