Larry M. Forssberg: WCCTB serves to promote businesses and village
What is the Westmont Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau?
This is a very common question. The answer is WCCTB is a Westmont-based membership organization of businesses that works to advance their mutual interests and the economic development of the Westmont area. Local business owners and community organizations voluntarily participate in the Westmont Chamber to form a legal nonprofit entity under federal tax law.
Such a 501(c)(6) is free to undertake supporting business activities. This type of organization provides an excellent structure and platform from which programs, services, events and resources can be offered that work in support of the business community.
This type of chamber of commerce has existed in the United States for more than 200 years. The chamber has served Westmont since 1974.
The goal of the Westmont Chamber is to advance the success of the business community and support economic development in the area. The chamber’s mission is to promote, connect and support businesses and tourism in the Westmont area.
The chamber is the source for business relationships, community information, serves as the voice for the business community and a key resource to promote Westmont. Like most chambers, WCCTB works closely with local, county and state government but is not part of government, which is a very common misconception.
Westmont Chamber activities also include promoting our world-class auto dealership cluster with WestmontAutoMile.com. Promote our cluster of 90-plus dining establishments with the “Dine Around the World” campaign. Remind residents and guests (more than 100,000 cars pass through Westmont daily) the value gained when you “Shop, Dine and Discover Westmont.”
Westmont Chamber works to continually build awareness of its members, Westmont and to provide tools to enhance business community growth and success. In addition, the chamber plays multiple roles in key community events that range from the Westmont Community Awards Program, Community Golf Classic, Westmont Winter Ball and partner with community organizations in support of the Independence Day Celebration and Holly Days; RED, White and BBQ; Taste of Westmont; and Race to the Flag.
WCCTB has also formed the Westmont Chamber of Commerce Educational Foundation, which is charitable/educational foundation, known as 501(c)(3) corporation. WCCEF was formed to raise funds for scholarships offered to Westmont-area students.
That is the answer to what is WCCTB; all are offered a warm Westmont welcome. WCCTB encourages all to shop, dine and discover all Westmont has to offer for a wonderful variety of experiences you will love and remember.
